Not all thoroughbreds are built for speed. Take a look at Mosey, I mean his name says it all. Mosey is as slow as they come and he certainly won't ever be leaving a rider behind. This 17 hand boy might be able to win if he raced a sloth, but I wouldn't put money on it, lol. Mosey is currently going through a tune up and being ridden by volunteer Anna. Our goal is to build up his muscle tone and increase his weight. His weight gain process is the only thing slower than his long legs. This is a long video, but a good one. You can clearly see that the horse is nervous, but she also trusts her trainers. The mare is slightly reluctant and leans back away from the saddle, but she never refuses it. If you notice during her first saddling clip she isn't even wearing a halter. She is standing there on her own free will. She relies on the connection and comforting words from the trainers. These trainers, have been working with her regularly for the last 30 days to establish a positive training relationship. They have also known her for much longer. Viva knows that she is safe which has made her lessons go very well. Viva continued... Halter training is going well. Viva will place her face into the halter with a little reassurance from her trainer. Halter training takes time Training takes time We want these moments to be remembered in a positive way for our horse. Recently, we have seen some deeply disturbing videos of trainers abusing horses by forcing them with disgusting tactics. You won't ever catch us doing that. Trauma is not a useful training tool. Viva is in the spotlight. It took us awhile to get her comfortable enough to start training, but we are here. Viva responds very well to calm liberty training. Our goal is to get her mind going and teach her that training is not bad. We do not scream at her and we do not hit her. We don't even make her wear a halter because it scares her and we don't want her distracted by something that isn't necessary at this point. She can be lounged at a walk, trot, canter, direction switched, and come in for a whoa with body language and verbal cues. Viva is still uncomfortable when being touched, but the relationship between her and Willow(trainer) is getting stronger and Viva is feeling better about getting pet during her sessions.
